Formed in 2006, desert blues/rock band Tamikrest are led by Ousmane Ag Mossa who says their music is a way to communicate the struggles facing the Touareg people in Mali, and also a way to celebrate their culture. Dubbed the ‘spiritual sons of Tinariwen’, Tamikrest (meaning coalition) show that the new generation of Touareg musicians and activists has an equally powerful message to convey and a hypnotic, intense sound that is sure to attract their own following. Their debut album, Adagh, produced by Dirtmusic’s Chris Eckman, was released spring 2010.
